ABOUT THE ARTIST
William Morris (1834-1896) was an English artist, designer, writer, and socialist. He is often considered a major figure in the Arts and Crafts Movement, but he also designed wallpaper and textiles.
Morris became a prolific writer on art history. He had a profound interest in books; he even created his own typeface, known as the Morris type. He is also known for his famous phrase: "Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful."
