The Red Rabbit
The artist behind Das Rotes Rabbit, Sarah, was born and raised in Copenhagen and spent many of her formative years traveling through Central and South America with her father, who worked as a photographer. These journeys sparked a deep resonance and passion for light, colors, and the relationship between us and the world we live in—themes that continue to shape her work today. In 2003, she completed a master's degree in Visual Arts & Communication from the Danish Design School. Since then, she has run her studio, Das Rotes Rabbit, where she works across visual concept development, branding, and art. Sarah works from her studio, moving freely between small, intimate sketches and larger, structured works and projects. “My process often begins with something a bit intangible: a feeling, a sentence or a word, or a particular color. I consciously practice not controlling the idea or process too much,” she explains. Instead, she sketches, writes, and draws extensively, allowing directions to emerge along the way.
Step outside your door and you will find inspiration
Her sources of inspiration are wide-ranging – from classicism and modernism to impressionism and naïvism. “You really just need to step outside your door to find a story – or a seed – to build upon,” she says. The most important inspiration and driving force in the process is her imagination: a continuous practice of listening and trusting – an exploration of the relationships between color and emotions and our connection to each other and the world we live in.
